About STI

The Statistical Training Institute (STI) was established in May 2011 to improve the statistical capability of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. It is part of the Statistics Centre – Abu Dhabi (SCAD) and was created in line with Article 5 of Law No. 7 of 2008, which requires SCAD to establish an institute for statistical training. In line with the key priority of Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030 ‘Developing a highly skilled, highly productive work force’, we at Statistics Training Institute (STI) are committed to create an integrated statistical ecosystem by identifying, developing and delivering training needs of statistical community across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and the UAE.

STI delivers the training needs of the statistical community in Emirate of Abu Dhabi and is developing its services to support growing demand for statistics training across the region. To achieve this, STI organises fit-for-purpose, high-quality training courses designed to strengthen the statistical capabilities and professional competencies of individuals and organisations involved in the production of official statistics. STI offers a wide range of statistical and non-statistical courses at varying levels of technical difficulty.

In our endeavor to achieve this objective, we will:

  1. Identify and address the statistical needs of a spectrum of our internal and external customers namely; Statistics Centre - Abu Dhabi (SCAD) staff, other Abu Dhabi Government Entities (ADGEs), Private sectors, wider public and individuals, and use the outcomes to design and deliver learning content.
  2. Arrange high-quality, customized and purposeful training courses designed to reinforce the statistical capabilities and professional competencies of individuals and ADGEs involved in the production of official statistics.
  3. Facilitate clear learning paths for ADGEs and SCAD staff through effective delivery of statistical training interventions aligned with flexible learning models.
  4. Foster steadfast partnerships with local, regional and international counterparts and statistical training institutes across the globe for improved performance.
  5. Provide a range of integrated and certified training modules, and focus on the practical application of statistical skills, knowledge and expertise to meet the needs of data producers and users. 
  6. Enhance customer satisfaction on a continuous basis by measuring and improving the perception of our training & development solutions and services, and use outcomes to improve our offerings.

Approach

STI strives to provide the highest quality statistical training services in the region, operating for the benefit of statisticians and non-statisticians interested in developing their official statistics skills from both methodological/technical and leadership/management perspectives; and covering the entire spectrum of processes and domains. It seeks to address the needs of a wide range of customers; including staff from the Statistics Centre - Abu Dhabi, other Abu Dhabi government entities, wider public and private sectors, and international organisations and individuals;

  1. Offering established and bespoke training solutions across a wide portfolio 
  2. Being customer oriented, adapting to meet merging requirements 
  3. Tailoring courses to reflect regional perspectives and to include relevant examples and case studies 
  4. Maintaining well-motivated workforces through informative and valuable learning experiences 
  5. Designing modular programmes leading to recognised certification and examinations 
  6. Mobilising high quality training experts to meet customer needs in Arabic and English 
  7. Building reliable and trustworthy partnerships with international counterparts and professional statistical institutions 

Statistical Capability Development

  1. Abu Dhabi Statistical Fellowship Programme
    • The programme will fulfil the need for mathematical understanding and technical application of official statistics, a comprehensive programme of training modules looking in-depth at concepts and techniques used in the production of official statistics, leading, through a certified final examination process, to the Abu Dhabi Statistical Fellowship (ADSF) Certificate in Statistics. This hands-on programme compliant with the syllabus and examination format formerly used by the Royal Statistical Society (RSS), and targeting the practitioners in AD government who are the specialized in statistical production with ecosystem in AD government.
  2. Certification in Official Statistics
    • The program will fulfil the need for general understanding and practical application of official statistics, a comprehensive programme of certified capacity building workshop in official statistics, each one with the duration of three training, and including a one-hour certified examination. The programme workshops organised according to the following job families: Data Governance, decentralization and architecture; Data analysis (including machine learning and artificial intelligence); Statistical ecosystem and official statistics; data and field management (including visualization and storytelling) and applied official statistics. and targeting the practitioners in AD government who are the specialized in statistical production with ecosystem in AD government.
  3. Strategic insights and understanding of statistical leadership
    • The progamme will fulfil the need for understanding of statistics and data, a three-day high-level certified course designed to enhance the vision and improve the performance of statistical leaders across the Abu Dhabi Statistical System, and targeting the leaders in AD government (Director Generals, Executives Directors, Dept. Director and Sections heads) who are leading the statistical ecosystem in AD government.
  4. General Statistical Program
    • The progamme will fulfil the need for general understanding and practical application of official statistics and data, three-day basic – intermediate level certified course designed to enhance improve the performance of data producers and data users in the field of statistics across the Abu Dhabi Statistical System, and targeting the practitioners in AD government who are the specialized in statistical production with ecosystem in AD government.
  5. Field Work Licensing Program
    • This programme will fulfill the need for enumerators to understand the technical and practical application to collect the statistical data from the field, for scad statistical survey projects and opinion polls.
